Dr. Liaohai Chen is a molecular biologist and group leader of the Phys-Bio group in the Biosciences Division at Argonne National Laboratory.  He also holds a joint position as an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rush University Medical Center.  As a molecular biologist, but trained in physical science, Dr. Chen’s research focuses on bridging bioscience and physical science and harnessing the opportunities of merging molecular biology, nanotechnology, synthetic chemistry and advanced spectroscopy to create novel methods and tools of high-throughput biophysics, proteomic at single molecule level, molecular imaging and smart imaging probes and synthetic self-replicator, thus enabling the breakthroughs in bioscience and biomedical research.  To achieve such cross-disciplinary goals, group members in Dr. Chen’s lab include molecular biologists, synthetic organic chemists, cell biologists, physical/material scientists, and laser spectroscopic scientists,
who are working closely to tackle the challenges in systems biology, regenerative medicine, oncology
and synthetic biology. > read more
