> Research Interests:
Structural biology is at its best when it combines information from many disciplines. Protein crystallography utilizing synchrotron radiation is my area of primary expertise, but I like to work with investigators involved in more functional studies so that we can probe structure-function relationships. I am particularly interested in protein architecture and its context within the cell. Whereas this has previously inspired me to study giant macromolecules with X-ray crystallography and electron microscopy, I now hope to pursue larger many-domain proteins and protein complexes in the context of the Midwest Center for Structural Biology. Such studies will involve increasingly challenging structure studies with crystals of diminishing size and the micro-focus beamline proposed for the Structure Biology Center will be an invaluable tool.
