> Research Interests:

Soil biogeochemistry and in particular soil carbon storage and dynamics. Applications include land management to promote carbon sequestration, understanding the effects of elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide on soil carbon in different ecosystems, and generating data to improve models that predict the rate of global climate change. Involvement in research on a diversity of projects including: several FACE (Free Air Carbon Dioxide Enrichment) projects that study the effects of elevated CO2 on row-crop agriculture and forest ecosystems, a restored prairie chronosequence, an enriched background 14C study of forest carbon dynamics, and the sustainability and potential for soil C sequestration of switchgrass cultivated for biofuel.
